One Killed in Motorcycle-Semi Truck Crash on SR 18 in Snoqualmie, WA
Snoqualmie, WA (June 16, 2026) — A motorcyclist was killed Monday evening after allegedly striking the rear of a semi-truck on State Route 18, between I-90 and Issaquah Hobart Road Southeast. Washington State Patrol responded to the crash around 6:15 p.m. The highway was closed for approximately two hours before all lanes reopened just before 8:30 p.m. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
What Investigators Will Need to Determine
Because the crash involved a motorcycle striking the rear of a commercial truck, investigators will need to reconstruct exactly what happened in the moments before impact. That includes understanding vehicle speeds, lane positions, visibility conditions, and whether any contributing factors, whether mechanical, environmental, or behavioral, played a role.
Evening light around 6:15 p.m. in mid-June can create significant glare and shadow on Pacific Northwest roadways, and SR 18 in this stretch carries a mix of high-speed through traffic and merging movements that can create dangerous conditions quickly.
The Commercial Truck’s Role in the Investigation
Even in rear-impact crashes where another vehicle strikes a truck from behind, the truck’s operation is not automatically beyond scrutiny. Investigators may examine whether the truck’s brake lights and rear markings were functioning properly, whether the truck made any sudden speed changes, and whether its positioning in the lane was appropriate.
Federal regulations require commercial trucks to maintain proper lighting and reflective markings, and any failure there becomes relevant when a crash occurs in low-visibility conditions.

Why Legal Representation Matters in These Cases
Motorcycle crashes involving commercial vehicles are among the most legally complex personal injury cases. The size and weight disparity between a motorcycle and a semi-truck means injuries are almost always severe, and determining what actually caused the crash requires a thorough review of electronic truck data, physical evidence from the roadway, and applicable federal safety regulations.
