One Killed, One Injured in Semi Crash at Marine Drive and Sundial Road in Troutdale, OR
Troutdale, OR (May 26, 2026) — A fatal crash involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck occurred early Tuesday morning near the Troutdale Airport, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded around 3:45 a.m. to the intersection of Northwest Marine Drive and Northwest Sundial Road.
Investigators said a Mercedes-Benz sedan traveling west on Marine Drive collided with a semi-truck that was traveling south on Sundial Road. The impact caused the sedan to catch fire and resulted in a significant fuel and fluid spill across the roadway. The driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene, and a passenger in the car was transported to the hospital with critical injuries. Authorities said the semi-truck driver and a passenger in the truck remained at the scene and are cooperating with investigators.
Questions About Right-of-Way at the Intersection
At this point, investigators have not released information about which vehicle had the right-of-way when the crash occurred. That will likely become one of the most important parts of the investigation.
Intersections involving commercial trucks can be especially complicated because large trucks require more time and distance to complete turns or cross traffic safely. Investigators may examine traffic controls, signal timing, vehicle speeds, and the paths both vehicles took into the intersection.
What Investigators Will Likely Review
Because the crash happened before sunrise, visibility and lighting conditions may also become part of the investigation. Investigators may look at whether either driver had a clear view of approaching traffic and how much time each had to react before impact.
They will also likely review physical evidence from the intersection, including vehicle damage, debris patterns, and final resting positions. In serious crashes like this, those details can help establish how the collision occurred and whether either vehicle entered the intersection unexpectedly or without enough clearance.
The Semi-Truck’s Role in the Collision
Even though investigators have not announced any citations or charges, the operation of the commercial truck will still likely receive close scrutiny. Investigators may examine the truck’s speed, turning movements, braking activity, and whether the driver responded appropriately leading up to the collision.
Electronic data from the truck may also help establish timing and vehicle movement in the seconds before impact.
Why a Careful Investigation Matters
With limited information currently available, it would be premature to draw conclusions about fault. Crashes at intersections often depend on timing, visibility, and right-of-way, especially when a commercial truck is involved.
A detailed investigation can help determine what each driver could see, how the vehicles approached the intersection, and whether the collision could have been avoided.

Why It’s Important to Get an Experienced Truck Accident Lawyer
Crashes involving semi-trucks at intersections can raise difficult questions about right-of-way, visibility, and driver decision-making. These cases often require a close review of both roadway conditions and the operation of the commercial vehicle.
Since the operation of a truck is highly regulated, it’s important to consider hiring an attorney experienced in truck crashes, specifically if you find yourself in a similar situation. Attorneys certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in truck accident law have demonstrated experience handling these types of cases, and few attorneys in the Pacific Northwest hold that certification. Tom D’Amore, founder of D’Amore Law Group, has more than 30 years of experience and is certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
When a serious intersection crash leaves unanswered questions, schedule a consultation to better understand what may have contributed to the collision and what options may be available.
