Two Injured in Commercial Truck Crash at South 200th St. and Orillia Rd. South in Tukwila, WA
Tukwila, WA (January 9, 2026) — A serious collision involving a semi-truck and a box truck occurred Friday at the intersection of South 200th Street and Orillia Road South in Tukwila. According to local police, the crash resulted in critical, life-threatening injuries to the driver of the box truck, who was transported to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the semi-truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The collision led to a lengthy closure of the roadway while officers investigated the scene.
Authorities have stated that no preliminary information was immediately available regarding what caused the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.
What Investigators Will Need to Determine
Because the collision occurred at a signaled intersection, investigators will need to carefully examine how the crash happened and which vehicle had the right-of-way at the time of impact. In commercial vehicle crashes at intersections, determining signal phases, vehicle positions, and timing is often critical to understanding how and why a collision occurred.
Investigators may need to review traffic signal data, vehicle speeds, and whether either driver attempted to brake or take evasive action before the crash. When two large commercial vehicles collide, even relatively brief lapses in judgment or timing can lead to severe injuries due to the size and weight involved.
Evidence That Will Need to Be Examined
Both vehicles involved in the crash were commercial trucks, which introduces additional layers of analysis. Investigators may examine whether each vehicle was being operated in compliance with applicable safety regulations, including vehicle condition, load considerations, and driver qualifications. The condition of each truck and any available onboard data may provide insight into speed, braking, or other operational factors leading up to the collision.
In crashes involving commercial vehicles, responsibility does not always rest solely with an individual driver. Investigators may also consider whether company policies, scheduling pressures, or other operational issues played a role in the events leading up to the crash.
Why Careful Investigation Is Needed
At this stage, police have indicated that the cause of the crash is not yet known. A thorough investigation will typically involve analyzing physical evidence at the scene, vehicle damage patterns, traffic signal information, and any available witness accounts or electronic data.
This type of detailed review is essential for clarifying what occurred at the intersection and for determining responsibility based on objective evidence rather than early assumptions. When serious injuries are involved, answering these questions becomes especially important.

Experience Matters in Serious Commercial Vehicle Claims
When crashes involve large commercial trucks, determining responsibility often requires more than a basic review of the police report. These cases often hinge on technical details such as vehicle operation, regulatory compliance, and how commercial drivers and companies are expected to operate in complex traffic environments like busy intersections.
Because of these factors, individuals injured in commercial truck crashes often benefit from working with an attorney who focuses specifically on this area of law. Certification by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in truck accident law is held by only a small number of attorneys nationwide and reflects substantial experience handling serious commercial vehicle cases. Tom D’Amore, founder of D’Amore Law Group, has more than 30 years of experience and holds this certification. This background can be especially relevant when evaluating truck-related collisions in Washington.
