Teaching Bicycle Helmet Safety to Children

If you are having trouble convincing your child to wear a helmet while riding a bicycle, here’s a link to a YouTube video that gets the message across in a fun and engaging way.

The video uses a peer-to-peer approach to teach middle and high school youth about how wearing a bicycle helmet can protect them from serious injuries (including brain injuries) and death. It features a diverse group of teens and pre-teens explaining, among other things, why wearing a helmet is important, how to purchase a helmet, how to put it on correctly, and basic rules of the road.

The video is provided as a public service by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
