Study Analyzing Connection Between Texting and Crashes Leads to Call for National Legislation to Ban Texting While Driving

According to a study widely reported in the media last week, researchers investigating the effect of personal technology on roadway safety found that texting truckers are 23 times as likely as their non-texting counterparts to be involved in a crash or a near miss. Researchers analyzed commercial trucking data from 2004 to 2007 that involved 203 truckers and 3 million miles of driving.

The study has catalyzed a group of Democratic senators led by New York’s Charles Schumer to introduce legislation that would ban texting while driving throughout the United States.

We will keep our readers apprised of developments.
