National Consumer Protection Week

In honor of National Consumer Protection Week, March 3-9, become a better-informed consumer using some of the best resources available.

Consumer banking:  Helpwithmybank.gov was set up to provide answers to your questions about loans, insurance, mortgages and dozens of other banking issues. Learn the laws about late payment fees, reverse mortgages, credit bureaus, or get help filing a complaint against a national bank.

Buying and owning vehicles:  Does your car really need that high octane gas? Is your dealership vehicle warranty still valid if someone else repairs your car?  Consumer Information from the FTC supplies a lot of information on financing new or used cars, auto service contracts and warranties, and basic vehicle repair.

Scam alerts: The Better Business Bureau shares recently reported scams: phone calls targeting elderly about “Senior Safety Alerts”, Facebook phishing scams, fake coupon deals, and other cons.

Child safety: Safe Kids and its regional coalitions keep track of safety resources for kids in Oregon, Washington and all over the country. Learn baby safety basics, find a free car safety seat check near you, and learn how to avoid the most common injury risks for children at safekids.org.

For more, follow the FTC live Twitter chat on Wednesday, March 6, using the hashtag #NCPW
