Harney County Judge Steven Gratsy Says “I Will Not Resign”

Steven Grasty, the Harney County Judge who assisted the county through the 41-day armed takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, is now facing recall after a recent petition.

“Judge Gratsy and other county officials have prevented [US Citizens] the same privileges and rights that he and other officials use and exercise themselves” claims the petition speaking in opposition of Gratsy and other officials actions during the takeover.

The Oregon Secretary of State has received 566 signatures in support of the petition, which are 444 more than the amount needed to move it forward in the state judiciary. If validated the Judge will have to resign or face a recall election within 35 days.

“I have no intention of resigning” says Gratsy, adding “In the past 48 hours, I have had a tremendous outpouring of support. These people with their petition are entitled to their say. There are many people who support me who are waiting for their chance.”

Gratsy has been poorly received by members of the public since he demanded that Ammon Bundy and the others who staged an armed takeover of the refuge leave Harney County.
