Is Bottled Water Safe to Drink?

Many people assume that bottled water is safer than tap water, but according to the Environmental Working Group, that's not the case.

According to a recently published bottled water scorecard and report, most bottled water companies refuse to disclose information on such issues as:

  • Where does their water come from?
  • Is their water purified, and if so, how?
  • Have tests found any contaminants?

Amazingly, such secrecy is legal in many states. And even in states such as California, which have passed disclosure laws, many companies fail to comply.

As a result of these findings, the EWG recommends that consumers drink filtered tap water, which they argue saves money, and is environmentally friendly.
