Daughter of actor Paul Walker settles lawsuit with Porsche

lawsuit

Meadow Walker, the daughter of late-actor Paul Walker, has settled a wrongful-death lawsuit she filed against Porsche over her father’s death in 2013 for an unspecified amount. The “Fast and Furious” actor’s father also settled his suit against the car manufacturer.

Paul Walker was killed while riding as a passenger in a 2005 Carrera GT. Walker’s friend Roger Rodas was driving the Porsche when it crashed into a tree and lamp post on the way home from a charity event. The car caught fire and both men died in the incident. According to The Los Angeles Times, a sheriff’s report cited Rodas’ speed between 80 and 93 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone before the car crashed.

The attorney for Meadow Walker argued that the car Paul Walker was riding in was not designed to protect passengers in the case of a crash. The lawsuit alleged that Porsche cut safety corners while building the Carrera GT and that the car maker failed to add a control system even though the company knew that the car had a history of instability. The case also contended that Paul Walker was not killed on impact, but died because he was unable to release his seat belt and escape the Porsche after the crash. The actor ultimately died from burns and traumatic injuries he sustained from the incident.

Attorneys for Porsche countered in 2015 that Walker was a willing passenger who was “a knowledgeable and sophisticated user” of the Carrera GT and that Walker was responsible for his own death.

Meadow Walker previously settled with Roger Rodas’ estate in 2014 for $10.1 million. She has requested that the wrongful-death case against Porsche be dismissed.
