“Ran into a pole … hurt pretty bad. Lesson learned: don’t text while running”
This is a picture of a teenager who tried to send a text while running. He’s fine now, and fortunate that it was only a superficial wound instead of a serious head injury.
I am glad that he learned his lesson without permanent injury, but a report from Safe Kids USA shows a 25% increase in the number of teenagers hurt in pedestrian accidents.
“We suspect one cause of this disturbing trend is distraction, since the increase in teen injuries seems to correlate with the prevalence of cell phone use, both among walkers and drivers,” Kate Carr, president and CEO of Safe Kids Worldwide
Nearly 5,000 Americans die in pedestrian accidents every year, and tens of thousands more are injured. Distraction is not new, but the number of ways in which both pedestrians and drivers can be distracted has grown exponentially.
This is a lesson to all of us to be aware of our surroundings, for our own safety and others.
