Did you know that several European countries have banned artificial dyes from foods, and require foods using any still-approved unnatural colors to prominently display warning labels on packaging stating that consuming foods containing artificial colors might be linked to behavioral issues in children?
Yet earlier this year, in an 11-3 vote, the FDA’s Food Advisory Committee concluded that there was not enough evidence to support a ban on food coloring based on health claims, mainly behavioral problems among children. Of particular concern to health advocates and parents are foods that commonly contain artificial coloring such as cereal, yogurts and juices. A number of studies have established links between behavioral issues in children such as hyperactivity, and consumption of a large amount of artificial colors.
